Pocket Navigator for Smartphone

location based services

Memory-Map now offers a version of the award-winning Pocket Navigator package for the Microsoft Windows Mobile Smartphone. On this smaller platform, the lack of a touch screen, or other pointing device, has required us to take a completely fresh look at the Pocket Navigator user interface. The implementation does not have many of the features found on the desktop or Pocket PC version. However, it does have some unique and powerful features, such as weather overlay, that take advantage of the phone platform.
A new level of portability

The Windows Mobile Smartphone is a platform you can truly take with you everywhere, so you are never without your detailed topo maps or marine charts. With mini-SD cards topping 1GB, you can truly carry a wealth of detailed maps in your pocket.

GPS

Connect your phone to a Bluetooth GPS, and it will show your current position and your speed and direction of travel, right on the map. Additional pages give detailed information from the GPS, and a dedicated "Goto" page helps you navigate towards a mark with the minimum of clutter.
Weather Radar

Pocket Navigator can use your phone's internet data connection to download live weather radar images to show approaching rain or storms. You current position and marks are shown on the radar image. This feature is available in the United States only. There is no charge for the service, except the internet access fees charged by your mobile phone service.

The radar data is obtained in an efficient way, without downloading the base image each time you update the display. If the skys are clear, the update is only 1 or 2 Kbytes; if there is widespread rain, it may be 10 Kbytes. The base image (which is only downloaded once) is 50 to 100 KBytes.
Getting Started

Pocket Navigator runs on the Windows Mobile 2003, and on Windows Mobile 5 Smartphones.

To install the software, download and install Memory-Map Navigator version 5.0.6. Sync your phone with the PC and run MMNav on your PC. Select Mobile Device / Install Pocket Navigator. Your Memory-Map desktop software must be licensed - if you don't already own a license, you can get a demo licence.

For more details, refer to the online help in the MMNav PC software, under Pocket Navigator.
