iST iPointer System Selected As LBS Challenge Semi-Finalist

location based services

Orono ME – March 14, 2006 – Intelligent Spatial Technologies, Inc. (iST), a technology leader in location-based services for mobile users, announces the selection of its iPointer system as a NAVTEQ LBS semi-finalist. iST will demonstrate the iPointer system at CTIA Wireless 2006® in Las Vegas in the Navigation / POI Look-up / Traffic category for the final judging.

Over 140 companies entered this year’s NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge with 14 semi-finalists advancing to the final judging, which will be conducted on April 6 at CTIA Wireless in Las Vegas. The contest encourages location-based service (LBS) applications development in portable devices using dynamic positioning technology and NAVTEQ® maps. Contestants enter LBS-based wireless applications in four categories: Navigation, Business Applications, Entertainment and Leisure, and Social Networking. Judges selected the semi-finalists based on each competitor's commercial feasibility, functionality and design.

iST’s iPointer system empowers users to explore a defined area, pointing and learning at will. Users point iPointer’s hand-held device at an item of interest and press a button. Informed of the user’s position through a combination of GPS and digital compass information, iST’s geospatial database identifies the target and sends information over a wireless network to be displayed in text, visuals and audio for the user. The iPointer technology has the potential to be embedded into a number of pervasive computing devices, such as cell phones and PDAs.
