“Semapedia in Ghana”

location based services

The significance of Semacode is that one can now link a real world, physical object to arbitrary data. Before there has been no link, except for things like barcodes which are small, do not link to the full Internet, and are fixed in function.

Semacodes enable any portions of the Internet to be 'attached' to any object, and can replace barcodes by going further to give encyclopaedic information, not just the simple product number.

Semapedia is the full blown realization of this revolution in barcodes, using an ordinary camera phone, to give you access to the world's best encyclopaedia, anywhere, anytime...

Semacode works by embedding a URL (web address) into a sort of two-dimensional barcode which looks like a dense crossword puzzle called the tag. The SDK software contains the capability to detect and decode the tag very rapidly with the camera on your phone. It extracts the URL and sends you to that address using the phone's built-in browser.
