Wayfinder Systems Announces Agreement with World Leading Handset Manufacturer Based on Tele Atlas Maps

location based services

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wayfinder Systems has entered into an agreement with one of the worlds top five mobile handset manufacturers regarding the pre-installation of Wayfinders navigational services in upcoming models.

According to the agreement, Wayfinders services will be embedded in upcoming handsets with built-in GPS functionality.

For Wayfinder Systems this is a milestone as it drastically increases the number of handsets with Wayfinders services installed. Today, more than 700 000 users have downloaded and used Wayfinders products. As sales of the upcoming models take off, Wayfinders user base has the potential to multiply several times, says Magnus Nilsson, CEO, Wayfinder Systems.

We have previously been pre-loaded on a number of handsets where users have been triggered to buy a GPS separately in order to experience the benefits of our applications. With the pre-installation of Wayfinders services on GPS enabled handsets one cumbersome step in extending our services to end-users is eliminated, Magnus Nilsson continues.

At Tele Atlas we are excited to be part of yet another successful company within the area of mobile navigation and location based services, says Jack Reinelt, COO and Managing Director, Tele Atlas EMEA.

With some operators in Europe we are already seeing a dramatic increase in up-take of our services when users are purchasing phones with built-in GPS. We have seen up-take rates in excess of 50% in some cases. Although our initial up-take figures are encouraging, it is however still too early to draw any reliable conclusions from these numbers, concludes Magnus Nilsson.
