(PRLog.Org)This year (2007), mobile industry is all set for a further boom with large-scale rollouts of GPS technology coming under the agenda of application developers, handset manufacturers, and operating system (OS) managers.

Popularity of GPS technology has been further heightened by GPS chips’ new generation – small enough that they can slip in the mobile handsets and come with power management technology giving enhanced life to battery.

Although this may lead to sexy hybrid-applications, even fitting in the basic GPS systems in to a phone implies that one less device needs to be lugged around.

Most phone manufacturers will introduce a couple of devices enabled for navigating with a GPS (Global positioning system) satellite location chip inside. For example, Nokia has plans to introduce a personal mapping program that’ll let users to send messages to each other and also have instructions on how to congregate, delivered to the handset. Just like, the satellite navigation system today.

However, it’ll demand new performance levels, enhanced functionality, interoperability, and broader access to mobile solutions beyond executive suite for operators and consumers for realizing the advantages of anytime and anywhere productivity & collaboration.

GPS devices are gaining impetus in the market. Europe is the key market for GPS systems, however the technologists anticipate the US market should also take off over the next two year (2007-2008).

As per the RNCOS report “World Global Positioning Systems Market Forecast (2006-2008)”, “Globally, the GPS market is expected to exceed US$ 30 Billion by 2008 as the market is being flooded by a number of affordable GPS components and receivers. The two segments under this technology namely people tracking & handset market will have maximum growth rate, about 9% by the year 2008.”
