Australian real estate Google Maps mashup boom
location based services
Google Maps is cooking in Australia! Yesterday Google added address search and geocoding support for use in mashups created using the Google Maps API. On the same day online giant Fairfax Digital released information about adding Google Maps viewing to their property search site Domain.com.au - This integration joins other new and existing real estate mashups in Australia signaling a boom in this online vertical industry. With the enhancements added to Google Maps and the API recently, this will add more momentum to this web 2.0 explosion in Australian real estate websites!
- As mentioned Domain is the Fairfax Digital online property search site which has integrated Google Maps search results into their website. To see this new functionality go to the site, plug in any Australian postcode or suburb name. In the search results page, there is a now a link called "View properties on a Map". Click that link and you're there! Tiny little house map icons showing you your next castle! :)
- HomeMap (.com.au) joins the Australian Google Maps real estate mashup boom with a Google Maps centric property search interface. Tick options off for Type, Number of Bedrooms and Price and properties are then listed on the map for you. They've created a nice map marker that makes its way into the site logo. You can add listings to this mashup as well. A forum and blog keep you up to date and connected on this mashup.
- Sellhouse (.com.au) hit the Australian online real estate scene as the first known Australian real estate website that made use of the Google Maps API back on August 8th. It covers the entire country and is powered by a proprietary geocoding system and includes a database of 8,000+ suburbs.
Google Maps Mania is aware of one other Real Estate Mashup that will certainly rank well among these once launched. I've had a look at it and it has an awesome web 2.0 interface interface not seen in other global real estate mashups. Keep an eye on RealMap.com.au for their launch date..
