Motorola has made three new investments in Chinese technology and venture capital firms, the company's chairman and chief executive officer said.
Today we're announcing that we've made three more investments, venture-type investments, here in China. There are a lot of smart people doing exciting things that we're trying to work with and partner with," Motorola (Profile, Products, Articles) Chairman and CEO Ed Zander said at a press conference in Beijing Wednesday.
The company's venture capital arm, Motorola Ventures, made unspecified investments in Shanghai NewMargin Venture Capital Enterprise, a venture capital fund that invests in "high-growth or high-potential" technology companies, Motorola said.
It also made a "significant" investment in Shenzhen Shenxun Information Technology Development Co.'s (SXIT) parent company, China Internet Technology and Service, and will cooperate with SXIT on applications including location-based services.
The third investment is in Legend Silicon , parent company of Legend Silicon Beijing, which will work with Motorola to design and manufacture demodulator chips for use with mobile television, such as in 3G (third generation) mobile services, the company said.
Motorola has invested $3.6 billion in China between 1987 and the end of 2005, it said.
