Vodafone Upgrading Location Based Services Platform

location based services

Vodafone Spain and Genasys have announced that last month the operator selected the Genasys Positioning Platform (GPP) as their location enabling server (LES) for the administration and delivery of location based services.
GPP provides a complete array of management services that are essential to the efficient and reliable provisioning of LBS. It acts as the "command and control centre" for LBS management by implementing powerful security and privacy features while interconnecting all the required applications and internal operator systems. These may include SMS/MMS centres, geoservers, billing systems, location servers, content providers, operations and management systems, customer care, and more.
Genasys CEO Joaqu'sanz observes, "We are extremely pleased that Vodafone selected our GPP to consolidate and strengthen their LBS infrastructure. Though we've been providing a wide variety of telecom and geographic information system solutions to Vodafone Spain for nearly ten years, this is our first location based services contract with them. In addition to the technical superiority of the GPP platform, we are proud that our history with Vodafone as a reliable and innovative solutions provider contributed to their decision."
After a period of installation and integration the current LBS services will be migrated to GPP. Vodafone has plans to further develop the and expand their range of location-based services over the months that follow.
The Mobile World subscriber database reports that Vodafone Espana ended the 3rd quarter of this year with just over 13.8 million subscribers, of which some 1.7 million are connected to their 3G network.
