Taiwan GPS makers Holux and GlobalSat see booming PND sales in 4Q

Holux Technology and GlobalSat Technology, two leading makers of GPS (global positioning system) products in Taiwan, saw shipments of GPS PNDs (portable navigation devices) in the fourth quarter significantly increase from last quarter, according to industry sources.

Holux has begun shipping GPS PNDs for orders received from new clients in Europe and additional orders from US clients last quarter, with total shipment volume rising to 3,000-5,000 units a month, the sources indicated.

GlobalSat has recently stepped into production of GPS PNDs. As the company has offered several new GPS PND models this quarter, the sales revenue for such product as a percentage of its total revenue is expected to increase from 5% last quarter to up to 40% this quarter, the sources pointed out.
