Lenovo to Built HSDPA/UMTS Cards into Thinkpad T60 and X60 Notebooks

enovo has selected the Sierra Wireless MC8755 PCI Express Mini Card embedded module for HSDPA/UMTS networks for integration into the ThinkPad T60 and X60 notebook computers for European markets.

This follows recent collaborations between the two companies in integrating EV-DO connectivity into business notebooks for North American customers.

Mobile professionals with AirCard Enabled notebook computers will be able to enjoy the benefits provided by simple, convenient access to 3G networks, built right into their computers. Quick mobile access to the Internet, email (even with large attachments), and online corporate applications ensures that road warriors and business travelers can make the most efficient use of their time.

The MC8755 PCI Express Mini Card module is built using the MSM6275 Mobile Station Modem chipset from QUALCOMM and offers peak download speeds of 1.8 Mbps. The MC8755 operates on the 2100 MHz HSDPA/UMTS frequency band and is designed for markets in Europe and Asia.

MC8755 modules are also compatible with GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks on all four GSM frequency bands (850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz), for global roaming in areas where an HSDPA or UMTS network is not available.

The MC8755 module measures 51 x 30 x 4.5 mm, and weighs less than 12 g.
