Motorola Provides New Phone-Based Navigation and Location-Based Services and Products

location based services

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8 -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT - News) today announced it is bringing world-class mobile navigation and location-based services (LBS) to the mass market. Working with Jentro Technologies and Destinator Technologies as software suppliers, Motorola will launch new navigation products in 2007.
The new products and mobile devices will be equipped with location-based services and navigation platforms that give consumers access to local point-of-interest searches, community tools and other LBS and value-added services. These features are made possible by Destinator's seamless integration and Jentro's mobile Internet platform which uses the Java client on a handset to communicate with a server-based backend -- thus enabling a complete phone-based navigation for the mass market.
In addition, this new product portfolio will provide flexible, reliable solutions in personal navigation. Leveraging Destinator's fully adaptable navigation application, Motorola is able to customize product with up to 18 different languages and features for various regions and markets.
"We are developing new products with the location-based features people want," said Greg Estell, corporate vice president and general manager, MobileME, Motorola. "Jentro's unique technology and mass market knowledge, Destinator's experience and vision in location-based services, coupled with Motorola's leadership in form and function will deliver the best possible solutions in user-friendly devices."
"We are delighted to work with Motorola to create even more value for consumers," said Hans-Hendrik Puvogel, CEO of Jentro Technologies. "Our technology supports a wide portfolio of mass market phones and is poised to turn consumer interest in navigation into a viable commercial opportunity."
"Destinator Technologies is proud to be collaborating with Motorola to bring world-class navigation and location-based services to millions of consumers worldwide," said Brian Barry, CEO of Destinator Technologies.
