Mapflow Wins Key Role in 41M European Project

location based services

The project aims to design, develop and test the technologies needed to allow cars to communicate with each other and with the nearby roadside infrastructure. The project is being supported by the European Commission, and involves more than 60 different organisations.

Mapflow, a leading provider of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Location Based Services (LBS) technology, was selected to play a central role in the development of technologies which utilise positioning and mapping components to provide spatial data for next-generation traffic management and information systems. Working alongside project partners such as NAVTEQ, Tele Atlas, ERTICO and LogicaCMG, Mapflow will help create the world-class location technologies required to support the complex demands of co-operative systems.

Applications making use of the Mapflow technology include dynamic information and guidance services for drivers, hazardous goods monitoring, emergency vehicle support and the provision of roadside sign information through in-car displays.

Project Manager Paul Kompfner remarks: “CVIS’ achievements will increase road safety and efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of road transport. The project’s ambition is to begin a revolution in mobility for travelers and goods, completely re-engineering how drivers, their vehicles, the goods they carry and the transport infrastructure interact.”

“Mapflow is delighted to be playing a role in this ground-breaking project” said Richard Bryce, Mapflow CEO. “This highly collaborative project will see Europe move closer to a vision of a European road-using community, sharing information seamlessly and effortlessly, in order to improve road safety and the environment as well as collectively improving our individual travel experience. We are extremely pleased to be able to play a key role in the development of future vehicle communications technologies, while also continuing to demonstrate our strong commitment to Research and Development activities”.
