location based services

The UnofficialGoogleWeblog Reports that BenQ and Google are teaming up to integrate some bundled Google software onto BenQ phones beginning as early as April of this year.

BenQ, known for their willingness to break new ground with mobile technology will be able to take advantage of the Google software to leverage some of their proprietary features such as media quicklink keys, providing their customers with a more tightly integrated mobile multi-media experience.

The official press release from BenQ was equally light on details of the Google deal saying only that the phones would come with Google software preinstalled for local information searches. The release went on to provide additional details about planned future technology upgrades from BenQ including OTA software upgrades, and an HSDPA handset as well as to inform that BenQ is now the sixth largest manufacturer of mobile phones worldwide.
